Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a brief, image-based trauma-processing therapy that combines bilateral eye movements with guided imagery and “voluntary image replacement” (the client replaces distressing mental images with neutral or positive ones) while maintaining factual memory of the target event. In contrast to many longer-term therapies, like EMDR, ART is designed to produce meaningful symptom improvement in just 1-5 sessions. ART is effective by helping clients to connect pieces of information that are already stored in their memory. The brain, while focused on a problem and concurrently using bilateral eye movements, makes new connections utilizing a person’s strengths and problem-solving skills.

ART is especially helpful for treating trauma, but is also effective in the treatment of depression, anxiety, phobias, panic attacks, substance abuse, OCD, and other addictions. ART can be used as a stand alone therapy, or in conjunction with more typical Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy.
