Fertility

Having children is something that many people take for granted.  But for some, the basic desire to have a child can present a variety of unexpected challenges.  The process of trying to become pregnant, coping with obstacles or loss, and consideration of “next steps” that many never have to think about, can take a tremendous toll on people and their relationships.  Even the most rational, well put together people, struggle with the emotional strain fertility issues bring.

Support Through Therapy or Consultation

Dr. Gibson provides consultation and therapy for people dealing with a variety of fertility and pregnancy loss issues.  Dr. Gibson can serve as a support to lend you tools and coping strategies for dealing with this difficult time.  Though family and friends can be wonderful supports when facing losses, it can often be difficult to turn to these “usual” people as fertility issues can be difficult to explain and understand.  Everyone walks a different path in coping, communicating to loved ones, and making decisions surrounding fertility.  Comprehensive therapy can help in exploring different options.

Additionally, the process of fertility assistance through egg donation, sperm donation, and surrogacy can bring additional concerns and considerations.  Often, psychological consultation or evaluation is required or recommended by Reproductive Endocrinologists.  Dr. Gibson’s goal, as a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in reproductive issues, is to make this a helpful and informative consultation, not just “more red tape.”  She will work to assess understanding of the possible challenges in all parties, as well as provide a “game plan” for support in an area where people sometimes feel they are unable to turn to their usual support system of family and friends.
