Heather Gibson, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist (PSY 19190).  She provides individual, couples, family therapy, and psychological consultation for a variety of people in and around the Ventura County area.

Education: Dr. Gibson received her M.A. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Texas Tech University.  She completed her clinical internship and training at UCLA’s Neuropsychiatric Institute.

Background: Dr. Gibson has been employed doing clinical work in a variety of settings; including Inpatient Psychiatric Hospitals, Residential Treatment Facilities, School Districts, and Juvenile Justice.  She has been working in Private Practice since 2003.  Additionally, Dr. Gibson has completed and published empirical studies in the treatment of eating disorders and has been involved in writing textbook chapters related to treatment of eating issues.

Dr. Gibson works within cognitive-behavioral, problem solving, and interpersonal models to assist people in meeting their goals and building skills for coping with various life stressors.  She utilizes “empirically validated treatments,” that is, her approach is based on what research has proven to be effective for treatment.  She is also skilled at adapting those treatments for what individuals need and never uses a “one size fits all” philosophy.  Each person has specific strengths and needs.  Dr. Gibson strives to quickly connect with patients and their families, building strong, comfortable, therapeutic relationships.
